Pressured by the football program from day -4. FACT CHECK: I was born on a Wednesday. The Ducks didn't have to travel to Ann Arbor to play Michigan. They played the Beavers in Portland, a two hour drive away,, Saturday the 18th. So maybe I was taken only a few days early by Doc Guldager, the team doctor. And I really didn't like the track meet. It was kind of boring but really scary and annoyin...

    IINSPIRE: To excite, encourage, or breathe life into. Coach Frank, in my book you will always be the definition of "inspiration" to me and I believe to many others as well who were/are involved in track and field. You helped us reach our potential from where we were at to whatever we could become. Because of that I hereby dedicate my very first master's age 70-74 men's discus P.R. at the Oregon Senior Games in Corvallis, Oregon at Whyte Track and Field this August 10th, 2024 to you, Coach Frank Morris. As my high school track and field coach at Springfield High School through my Senior year in 1971 you greatly helped me believe in myself and what I could achieve with the discus with whatever talent I possessed. Defeating the South Eugene thrower in a duel meet by 2 inches (my High School P.R.) in my Senior Year was the cherry on the top and was not possible without your coaching. And now, some 53 odd years later and my career has come and went, my love for discus throwing has never died. Though my discus goals are modest as I must admit, I will persist in achieving them. And achieve them I will. It is NOT a question of IF, but WHEN. Persistence will overcome all obstacles. Thank you Coach. I and so many others over many places and times are forever in your debt. Chris Reynolds Springfield Senior High Class of 1971

    Очень слитный бросок от замаха до финала. Идеальные углы звеньев тела. Взрывная сила в финале и плавный разгон снаряда в повороте. Уверен, что ему эти броски за 70 показались очень лёгкими. У меня тоже в один день было такое чувство: личный рекорд без особых усилий. Все звёзды сошлись!

      Rob, And the key was that it was such a smooth application of force due to his rhythm, positions, and savoir faire. He wouldn't break that rhythm to "hit it" even when the power out of the back was lacking. He would rather look like he was "Not Trying" than break rhythm and force the throw. Right Doc?

    • @70footer
      @70footer 3 місяці тому

      @@MacWilkins so like you often do, you just raised the bar Mac. So you are saying, there is no HIT IT at all, ever! , there is only smooth transfer of Rhythm, speed, and power. Thats interesting, I'll think about that for awhile...in a good baseball or golf swing there is no HIT IT either, just smooth transfer and club acceleration thru the zone ....HMMMM ? thanks Coach!!

    Excellent questions and very useful to think about. I honestly believe that he can go much further with some improvement at the end of the throw. I could not imagine how powerful he must become to capture all that energy for release. He will push our understanding of how far the discuss can fly.

    Mac, check out the left foot turn of Daniel Stahl and even Payton Otterdahl in the shot

    • @MacWilkins
      @MacWilkins 3 місяці тому

      I couldn't find consistent left foot action from either, but I think you might be implying that they do also stop the left foot rotation and come off the outside of the foot at the back. This may allow for a more forceful use of the left pulling on the right leg creating a greater right leg velocity. But I think it also shows that what you do in the back you must repeat at the front which in this case is the left is under rotated and is slightly blocking out at the front.. Whether this is good or bad is determined mostly by the tape measure. But also by the block which for both Daniel and Mykolas, the right foot lands with the right heel pointing to the throw. To me, this means the block wasn't strong enough. And it can force a right foot touch down in the reverse in a weak position, heel up with the mechanics and momentum forcing it down toward the rim.
